After the success in the Festa do Alvarinho e do Fumeiro de Melgaço, the wine brand Dona Paterna presents in Coimbra the sparkling wine ice cream 100% Alvarinho Dona Paterna, in a partnership with the artisan gelateria DOPPO. The delicacy will be presented and tasted during the business day promoted by Hoturwine and Wine Concept on May 15, between 2 and 7 pm, at the restaurant Bixos (Avenida Navarro, 45).
This is the first joint event dedicated to the presentation of Hoturwine and Wine Concept’s wine portfolios, where seven of Dona Paterna’s products will be present, namely the 100% Alvarinho, the Alvarinho Trajadura, the Loureiro, the Rosé, the two sparkling wines of the brand (the brut 100% alvarinho and the Rosé) and also a novelty, the Pét-Nat 100% Alvarinho.
The event, aimed at all professionals connected to the world of wine, hospitality, journalists and critics, is a moment dedicated to business, but also to conviviality between producers and the market of the wine, hospitality and catering sectors. “We presented this ice cream during the Festa do Alvarinho e do Fumeiro de Melgaço, at the end of April. The reviews couldn’t have been better. Everyone loved it. We wanted now, taking advantage of this event where we were present with some of our wines and taking advantage of the presence of professionals from the restaurant and hotel sector, to also present the ice cream,” reveals Carlos Codesso, the producer of Dona Paterna, confessing that “it is a different way to taste our 100% Alvarinho brut sparkling wine.
DONA PATERNA’S 100% ALVARINHO RAW SPARKLING WINE ICE CREAM
«A fresh ice cream, excellent for very hot days, it can also be served in compound desserts, associated with other sweets, constituting a counterpoint element, making the dessert balanced from the point of view of sweetness.», says Fernando Castelo Branco, author of this artisanal ice cream and chef of the DOPPO ice cream shop, launched in June 2022 (located in Praça do Comércio – Coimbra), assuring that «care was taken not to interfere with the essence of the Brut Sparkling Wine produced by Dona Paterna and ensure a good creaminess.»
Innovating and betting on new segments is already a particularity of the Dona Paterna wine brand. «Our brand has “taken a risk” in establishing partnerships with different brands, in order to provide consumers with new experiences, but we also want to show, and even challenge, the character of our products. Their versatility, » says the Dona Paterna producer, stressing that “so far the experiences have been a success. We have managed to create experiences without the authenticity of the Alvarinho flavor being lost, as is now the case with the 100% Alvarinho Dona Paterna raw sparkling wine.»

Remember that from the synergies established by Dona Paterna different products have already appeared: the chocolate egg with Alvarinho brandy, the chocolates with Dona Paterna 100% Alvarinho – of different flavors, an Alvarinho wine brandy ice cream (the Dona Paterna XO) created by the Neveiros ice cream shop in Porto and also a purple onion tatin refreshed with the raw 100% Alvarinho Dona Paterna sparkling wine, made by Chef Ana Luísa Eira Velha (Tasquinha da Portela).
