The Alvarinho Dona Paterna 2022 was awarded a silver medal in the Brussels World Competition, one of the most important international wine competitions, held this year in Porec, Cratia, from may 12 to 14.
On tasting were 7.504 wines, red and White, from about 50 countries around the world, among which 900 Portugues labels, of which 337 were awarded, being evaluated by experts from the entire international wine sector.
Produced in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, the origino f alvarinho, the Alvarinho Dona Paterna is a classic. A néctar full of delicacy, freshness and minerality. In the mouth it reveals the taste of delicate white fruit, citrus, saline tones and flowers. A wine that harmonizes perfectly with seafood, fish dishes or poultry dishes. Excellent also as na aperitif and «should be drunk at 10-11º », recommends Carlos Codesso, the producer Dona Paterna, mentioning that «these awards are the result of a huge passion and desire to know and do more and better. I tis always a great satisfaction to see our products distinguished. I tis the result of the work that our team has been doing and going through in the eagerness to offer a quality product that meets, or exceeds, the expectations of the consumer.».
This was the 30º Editions of the Brussels World Competition. All wines were blind tasted by a panel of experts ( buyers, journalists, wine merchants, oenologists, among others) carefully selected by the Brussels World Competition, representinh 45 nationalities.
GASTRONOMIC EXPERIENCES WITH ALVARINHO DONA PATERNA
Innovating and betting on new segments is already a particularity of the wine brand Dona Paterna.
In 2022, when the Festa do Alvarinho e do Fumeiro de Melgaço, the Melgaço brand risked, in a partnership with a local producer, Elisangela Castro (Sabor do Céu), to create chocolate bombons with Alvarinho Dona Paterna. The result was excelente. Those who tasted it loved it, and this delicacy is already a reference of both brands. The innovations have been constant, experiencing diferente flavors, such as lemon cream, pineapple essence filling, passion fruit, among others where, of course, Dona Paterna Alvarinho stands out.
«Our brand has “risked” establishing partnerships with different brands, with the aim of providing consumers with new experiences, but we also want to show, and ecen challenge, the character of our products. Their versatility», says the Dona Paterna producer, stressing that «so far the experiences have been a success. We’ve managed to create experiences without losing the authenticity of the Alvarinho flavor, like the chocolates. The alvarinho wine is on of the greatest ex-libris of Melgaço, of the region, but people like and should have other suggestions and here we have excelente products, not only gastronomic, but also tourism, sports, nature… In the end, we all win, because if our terriroty wins, so do we.»
