Alvarinho Dona Paterna’s XO Wine Brandy was awarded a gold medal, in the Vinho Verde Brandy category, in the “The Best Greens 2022” contest, an initiative promoted by the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region (CVRVV) that took place yesterday ( April 27), in Viana do Castelo.
The Alvarinho brand from Melgaço saw other four of its products be distinguished with the Honor award. They are: Dona Paterna Alvarinho 2021, in the Vinho Verde Alvarinho category; Paterna Alvarinho Trajadura Escolha 2021, in the White Vinho Verde category; and in the Vinho Verde Brandy category, Dona Paterna Aguardente Bagaceira Alvarinho and Dona Paterna Aguardente Bagaceira Velhíssima Alvarinho.
«It is a great pride for our brand, and for the region, to see our products being distinguished in the face of a vast diversity of wines of excellence that the Vinho Verde region has.», says the producer, Carlos Alberto Codesso, stressing that « Alvarinho Dona Paterna’s XO Wine Brandy is our ex-libris in this segment.»
These distinctions are the result of an enormous passion and desire to know and do more and better. «It was my adventurous spirit that led me to bet on brandies when no one else had them.», says the producer who has worked in the sector for about 50 years.
The “The Best Greens 2022” contest highlighted 157 wines from the Vinho Verde Region, in 11 different categories.
XO DE ALVARINHO DONA PATERNA VINEYARD
Dona Paterna XO brandy is a wine brandy, which results from the distillation of wines from the Alvarinho variety, and with the care that such an operation requires.
Like Dona Paterna Velhíssima brandy, Dona Paterna XO also ages in oak casks of different origins for several years.
It has a topaz color, with a characteristic aroma of wood, given its aging in wooden barrels, complex and with a soft, structured and unctuous flavor.
