For those who like chocolate, this is one of the sweetest times of the year. And for those who do not do without a tasty Alvarinho, in Melgaço, there is a suggestion whit these two flavours: The chocolate egg filled with red fruits, White chocolate and Nutella, harmonised with the Dona Paterna Alvarinho Brandy.
Made in an artisanal way, the gastronomic proposal is exclusive for this Easter, or can be ordered in advance, and is the result of a partnership between the Dona Paterna, a wine brand for Melgaço, and Sabor do Céu pastry shop. «The secret is the proportion, to have a perfect balance between the sweetness of the chocolate and the strong flavour of the Alvarinho brandy.”, reveals Elisangela Castro, from Sabor do Céu. Originally from Brazil, she wanted to bring to Melgaço a tradition from her homeland: “In Brazil, the chocolate egg is one of the great symbols of the Easter celebration. Everyone offers chocolate eggs. Dona Paterna challenged me again to creat a sweet with Alvarinho and I thought it would be excellent to bring this tradition here. It is a very exquisite and filled chocolate Easter egg”, says Elisangela.
«Our brand has “risked” establishing partnerships with different brands, with the aim of providing consumers with new experiences, but we also want to show, and even challenge, the character of our products. Its versatility”, says Alvarinho producer Carlos Codesso, stressing that “ so far the experiences have been a success”.
We recall that from the synergies established by Dona Paterna different products have already appeared: the chocolate egg with Alvarinho brandy, the chocolates with Dona paterna 100% Alvarinho – of different flavours, an Alvarinho wine brandy ice cream ( the Dona Paterna XO) created by the Neveiros ice cream shop in Porto and also purple onion tatin refreshed with Dona Paterna 100 % Alvarinho brut sparkling wine, made by Chef Ana Luísa Eira Velha (Tasquinha da Portela).

DONA PATERNA BAGACEIRA
Dona Paterna Bagaceira is obtained exclusively from the pomace of the Alvarinho variety, which is the origin of the Dona Paterna Alvarinho wines.
After a careful process of traditional distillation, followed by a correction suitable for the quality of the final product, a marc brandy with the character, richness and complexity of the Alvarinho variety that gave rise to it is presented.
