With the arrival of the month of August, there are many who return to their origins. Melgaço’s wine brand Dona Paterna wanted to welcome this year’s emigrants from the region with a Welcome Sunset. The fraternization moment takes place on August 5th, Friday, between 5 and 8pm, in the outdoor space of the Tasquinha da Portela restaurant, located in Paderne, Melgaço.
A Welcome with different Dona Paterna branded wines, showcooking with Tasquinha da Portela restaurant’s chef, Ana Luísa Eira Velha, Dona Paterna’s chocolates of Alvarinho and musical animation with Melgaço’s own Maria Pires, competitor of the last edition of the Voice Portugal TV show, are the suggestions for this late afternoon in Melgaço.
The invitation is to everyone in general: to the emigrants, to the community of the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, to friends and family. «We want to welcome our fellow citizens with a moment of celebration, along with our region’s products, but we want, above all, to be a moment to toast to life and happiness with those who are dear to us, after these last difficult times» says Dona Paterna’s producer, Carlos Codesso.
SYNERGIES WITH THE REGION’S AGENTS
With this action, the Dona Paterna brand returns, once again, to invest in synergies with local producers. «It only makes sense to create experiences that involve the territory. The various agents who work here. The visitor, the client, does not just want an experience or product, but a variety of experiences.» considers Carlos Codesso.
In April 2022 the Dona Paterna brand challenged a local producer to create chocolates of Alvarinho for the Festa do Alavarinho and Fumeiro de Melgaço. They were and continue to be a success. «The combination of chocolate with wine works perfectly and our brand, in partnership with a sweets producer from Melgaço, Elisangela Castro, has been betting on new options of flavors so that these are another reason for people to visit our land and even for outreach of the territory.» says the producer of Alvarinho, Carlos Codesso.
The gastronomic novelty is born from the hands of Elisangela Castro, from Melgaço’s pastry Sabor do Céu. «The result is fantastic: a perfect balance between sweet and sour and with a taste of Alvarinho.» sustains Elisangela.
The product is for sale in the producer’s bakery, Sabor do Céu, in Melgaço (contacts: Rua Dr. Augusto César Esteves – Melgaço, Tlf +351 934 352 915) and Solar do Alvarinho (Former Firehouse of the Melgaço Volunteers, Alameda Inês Negra 4960-5660) and is also a part of the Tasquinha da Portela restaurant’s menu (Portela, Paderne, 4960-263 Melgaço), one of the references of the municipality of Melgaço, that has also invested on gastronomic options connected to the territory and its traditions.
«We want to create synergies with local producers. It is true that Alvarinho wine is one of the greatest ex-libris of Melgaço, in the region, but people like and should have other suggestions and here we have excellent options, not only gastronomic, but also in tourism, sports, nature… In the end, everyone wins, because if our territory wins, so do we.» says Carlos Codesso.
