Alvarinho Dona Paterna 2023 was recently awarded a gold medal at the Frankfurt International Trophy 2025, considered to be the largest international wine competition held in Germany.
Made exclusively from Alvarinho grapes, Alvarinho 2023 expresses the classic profile of the Dona Paterna brand: vibrant freshness, aromatic elegance and minerality. It is a versatile wine, ideal to accompany seafood, fish, white meats or to be enjoyed as an aperitif. We recommend drinking it between 10 and 11ºC to better appreciate its aromatic richness.
If you haven’t tried this wine yet, you can do so at the Festa do Alvarinho e do Fumeiro de Melgaço, which takes place from April 25 to 27 in the Largo do Mercado Municipal. Dona Paterna will be present with its own stand, where Alvarinho 2023, among other vintages and references of alvarinho, will be available for tasting.
“This recognition is another source of pride for the entire Dona Paterna team. This vintage represents our commitment to the authenticity of the territory and the excellence of the Alvarinho produced here. Each bottle carries the soul of Melgaço and the knowledge of decades dedicated to the vineyard,” says the producer, Carlos Codesso.
In this edition of the Frankfurt International Trophy, almost 3,550 samples from 44 countries were tasted. There were 2,350 samples in the wine competition, 550 in the beer competition and 650 in the spirits competition. The judging panel included 470 tasters from all over the world.

“We’ve been taking part in this event since its first edition in 1995, because we believe that this festival is authentic, that it promotes the sub-region of Monção & Melgaço, its culture and traditions and allows us to showcase our brand and our products to a wide audience. Organized by the Município de Melgaço, the Festa do Alvarinho e do Fumeiro will take place on April 25, 26 and 27 in the Largo do Mercado Municipal in Melgaço. Over three days it will bring together 31 producers of alvarinho, 16 producers of local / innovative products, four restaurants and seven tourist/institutional stands.
