To celebrate Monção & Melgaço Day, Dona Paterna is once again joining forces with local restaurants to toast the authenticity of the sub-region where the true Alvarinho is born. This year, the invitation is to Adega Sabino, in the centre of the town of Melgaço, where customers will be presented with a glass of the latest harvest of Alvarinho Dona Paterna (2024), recently awarded a gold medal at the Portugal Wine Trophy 2025, the most important international wine competition held in Portugal.
The event will take place at lunch and dinner on Saturday 7th June and aims to celebrate the excellence and uniqueness of Alvarinho from Monção and Melgaço, also paying tribute to the hospitality and typical gastronomy of the region.

MONÇÃO & MELGAÇO DAY: A DATE TO CELEBRATE THE ORIGIN
Monção & Melgaço Day has been celebrated since June 7, 2017, the date on which the Exclusive Guarantee Seal for Monção and Melgaço was created, certified by the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region. Since then, all wines bearing the Vinho Verde Designation of Origin, made from grapes harvested and vinified in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, with mention of this on the label, and bottled by agents from the sub-region, can use this seal that certifies the authenticity and genuineness of products from Monção and Melgaço, as a way of guaranteeing that this sub-region is the origin of the Alvarinho grape variety with its unique characteristics.
Recognised nationally and internationally, the sub-region continues to assert itself as a territory of excellence, with unique soil and climate conditions. The new Dona Paterna Alvarinho 2024 is proof of this, having won a gold medal in the first few months after its bottling, once again elevating the name of Melgaço on the world map of great wines.

A nectar full of delicacy, freshness and minerality, with delicate white fruit, citrus, saline tones and flowers. Ideal as an aperitif or to accompany seafood, fish dishes or poultry dishes. It should be drunk between 10-11ºC.
